How to solve “Gmail SMTP Functionality Not Enabled” problem.

Gmail SMTP Functionality Not Enabled

Gmail SMTP Functionality Not Enabled

I ran into this issue yesterday when trying to add a new non-gmail address to my Gmail account:

You must send through SMTP servers when you send as example.com. However, this functionality is not available for your account. Please contact your domain administrator.

Try the following fix:

In google apps and under Gmail
Click Advanced settings
Under “Allow per-user outbound gateways” – Disable the checkbox and re-enable it again (or just enable it if it is initially disabled).
This should activate this setting although the downside of this is that it could take up to 24 hours to propagate in full
It should solve the error.

How to Backup and Restore Signatures in Outlook 2013 1

How to Backup and Restore Signatures in Outlook 2013

00_lead_image_backup_signatures

You’ve created several signatures that you use for various types of emails. Then, you get a new machine and have to set up Windows and all your programs again. However, you can easily preserve your signatures in Outlook and restore them to the new machine.

Signatures are not stored in the .pst file Outlook uses for email messages. They are stored in the following location:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures

01_signatures_folder

There is an easy way to open this location from within Outlook. Click the File tab.

02_clicking_file_tab

On the Account Information screen, click Options in the list of menu items on the left.

03_clicking_options

Click Mail in the list of menu items on the left side of the Outlook Options dialog box.

04_clicking_mail

In the Compose messages section, press Ctrl while clicking on the Signatures button.

05_ctrl_click_signatures

The Signatures folder opens in Windows Explorer. To backup your signatures, simply copy all the files in this folder to another location.

06_signatures_folder_open_from_outlook

To restore your signatures, copy them from your backup location back into the C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures location. The next time you open Outlook, your saved signatures will be available. If you had signatures selected as default signatures for new emails and for replies and forwards, you’ll have to define those again.

NOTE: Each signature you create in Outlook exists in three formats: Plain Text (.txt), HTML (.htm), and Rich Text (.rtf). You need to backup all these formats for each signature.

Easily Add Facebook Chat to Pidgin

Want to keep in touch with your Facebook friends throughout the day?  Here we’ll show you how to easily add Facebook chat to the popular multi-protocol chat client Pidgin.

Getting Started

First, make sure you have a username for your Facebook account (link below).  This is a relatively new feature for Facebook, so if you’ve had your account for a while you may need to choose one.

image

If you already have one, you should see it listed instead.

image

Now, open Pidgin, and click Manage Accounts.

Click Add…

Then select XMPP from the Protocol list.

sshot-483

Now, enter your Facebook username without the facebook.com part (e.gyour.facebook.username, not http://www.facebook.com/your.user.name).  Then, enter chat.facebook.com for the Domain, and enter your standard Facebook password.  You can check the “Remember password” box if you’d like Pidgin to automatically sign in to Facebook chat.

image

Now, click on the Advanced tab, and uncheck the “Require SSL/TLS” box.  Also, make sure the Connect port is 5222.  Click Add, and your Facebook account is added to Pidgin.

sshot-484

Now Facebook will show up in your list of accounts, with the usernameyour.facebook.username@chat.facebook.com.

image

Your Facebook friends will show up directly in your Buddy list, complete with their full name and Facebook profile picture.  Any users that are not in a group will show under your standard list, while ones in a Facebook group will be shown in a separate group.  You can move which groups your Facebook friends show up in, just like you can with other chat contacts.

image

And no matter if your friend is logged in on the standard Facebook website or through another chat application, it will work the same as always.

image

This is a great way to keep in touch with your Facebook friends throughout the day.  If you like Facebook chat and already use Pidgin, now you can keep from switching between programs and just chat with all your friends from a central location.
